Kagiso Moima Wa Masimini began the journey in discovering his love for Lighting at Tshwane University Of Technology; Performing Arts faculty through Majoring in Lighting, Sound and Stage Technology National Diploma.

2002 – 2005 

Kagiso Moima Wa Masimini worked for three prominent companies (MJ Events Gear, Urban Brew Studios and Franz Marx Films) in the live events and technical production sector in South Africa. In 2005 Kagiso decided to embark on an entrepreneurial journey by establishing Blackmotion with pockets full of dreams. Initially the company started small with only 6 x Robe ColorSpot 250AT through the help of Duncan Riley from DWR Distribution with little office space in Kagiso’s living room. The early years of Blackmotion was coined by designing lighting for a variety of flagship shows and events such as Moferefere Lenyalong, Dube On 2, Friends Like These and Coca Cola Fullblast with Wyclef Jean in Angola. Responding to growing customer requests for a one-stop TV Lighting production solution, Blackmotion increased its capabilities and diversified into Stage, Audio, LED Screens and Audio Visuals over the next several years through a number of strategic investment, including Lighting, LED Screens and Audio equipment. The investment in Lighting brought the teams responsible for many Concerts, TV Shows, Events and Festival setting the stage for a series of industry leading proprietary products that continue to set Blackmotion apart today.

2006 – Present

Despite the economic meltdown in South Africa, Blackmotion has continued to grow year on year. Far from hiding under the blankets, Blackmotion’s aggressive purchasing policy has kept up with the latest technology and refreshed the old. Although there was an initial downturn in corporate work this is now well into its recovery and the strong TV shows, worship, events, festival and dry hire markets combined with diversification into led screens have continued to lead Blackmotion from strength to strength. Blackmotion has a legacy and a future of bringing the impossible into reality with a Tag Line:

“Let There Be Light”.
